Gulf Copper is currently seeking Carpenters for our Galveston location.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for the following: Other duties may be assigned.
- Erect, install, and repair structures and fixtures made from wood and other materials.
- Work from blueprints or instructions from supervisors, carpenters first do the layout—measuring, marking, and arranging materials—in accordance with local building codes.
- Cut and shape wood, plastic, fiberglass, or drywall using hand and power tools, such as chisels, planes, saws, drills, and sanders.
- Join the materials with nails, screws, staples, or adhesives.
- Do a final check of the accuracy of their work with levels, rules, plumb bobs, framing squares, and surveying equipment, and make any necessary adjustments.
- Construct wooden forms for pouring concrete, or erecting scaffolding
Required Education & Experience:
- A high school graduate or holder of a GED preferred.
- Trade and technical school training and/or employer-provided training preferred.
- Industrial and/or marine carpentry experience:
- 1st Class: 3-5 years
- 2nd Class: 1-3 years
Working Conditions:
- Regular exposure to all weather conditions, especially hot, humid and / or rainy weather, combined with regular work time indoors in environmentally controlled conditions.
- Open-air conditions such as noisy, hot, cold, etc.
- Prolonged standing, climbing, bending, and kneeling often are necessary.
- Must wear hearing, eye, and head protection.
- Some climbing (100 feet) and lifting (50 lbs.) involved.
- Working with hot and sometimes hazardous materials.
- Aboard ships, both on and offshore.
Necessary Equipment Operation:
- Power tools
- Transit levels
- Hand tools
Special Skills:
- Ability to work under deadlines and schedule pressures.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings and technical manuals.
- Perform basic mathematical functions.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
