Outside Machinist Helper 

Overview and Purpose: The Outside Machinist Helper is an entry-level position that assists experience Outside Machinists with hands-on mechanical work. This role is ideal for individuals who are eager to learn a skilled trade, work with tools and machinery, and grow within the industrial or marine industry. Training is provided on the job, and safety is a top priority.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

This position is responsible for the following: Other duties may be assigned.  

1. Help disassemble, clean, repair and reassemble industrial and marine equipment such as pumps, turbines, gearboxes, and other mechanical equipment. 

2. Assist with moving, positioning, and aligning machinery using hand tools and basic measuring equipment. 

3. Support machinists with leveling equipment and setting parts in place accurately. 

4. Use basic hand tools, power tools, and measuring devices such as tape measures, feeler gauges, and micrometers (training provided). 

5. Help prepare tools, parts, and work areas before and after jobs. 

6. Follow instructions and learn proper work procedures from experienced machinists. 

7. Maintain a clean, organized and safe work area at all times. 

8. Follow all safety rules, job site procedures, and PPE requirements. 

Required Education & Experience: 

1. High School Diploma or GED required. Prior industrial, mechanical, or marine experience is helpful but not required willingness to learn is most important. Technical school coursework is a plus but not necessary. 

2. TWIC is Required 

Working Conditions: 

1. Work is primarily outdoors or in industrial settings. 

2. Exposure to noise, temperature changes, and various weather conditions. 

3. Ability to climb ladders or structures and lift up to 50lbs with assistance. 

4. Work may be performed on ships, docks, barges or industrial facilities. 

Necessary Equipment Operation: 

1. Basic hand and power tools. 

2. Measuring tools. 

3. Rigging and lifting equipment. 

4. Hydraulic jack and support tools. 

Special Skills: 

1. Strong work ethic and willingness to learn. 

2. Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team. 

3. Basic math skills. 

4. Good communication skills. 

5. Dependable, punctual, and safety-minded. 

6. Interest in mechanical or industrial work.
